Yeah- listening to you read the great story- it was really good- the audience obviously liked it, too- I was surprised by how good the audio quality is-what are you recording with?
Anyway, I don't know if care about my advice for the actual poem, but after listening to it out load, think you should listen to yourself read it again and write out the lines of poetry imitating the pace and energy of the reading even more than you already have. Don't be afraid to have some really long lines- if having all those words on one line bugs you, that's where you start in on some revisions to tighten up the language, keeping the really strong images.
I wasn't going to post this in your comments spot, just share my advice, but since Nathan think's I'm too hard on you crybabies, I thought I'd show him I can be nice. (Nathan's an idiot).

I used the church's digital recording system. they have a nice one that can record straight to CD which is nice. most churches go to audio tape, and then you have to convert it. there were a couple songs that didn't come out so well because our third mic didn't pick up in the system.

I did relisten to it a few times and make some edits on the piece. when i read it out loud, i verbally edited quite a few lines in the piece, which is usually how it goes.

and don't worry about nathan. he's a wallaby lovin' nutrela eatin' kangaroo hopper.

and i also downloaded a program called wavepad which is free on the internet. VERY user friendly as far as editing audio and improving sound goes.

Once again, I completely agree with Mike, and I think you should totally 100% ignore everything he says. Except the part about the crybabies - where I assume he's referring to the people in your audience. They were obviously not laughing enough (possibly due to some level of crybabyism).
The only other thing I can think to suggest (without being a huge jerk like Mike with his jerk comments for stupid jerks), is to say that maybe all the crybabies in your audience would laugh a little more if you just had a little more sparkle in your eyes as you read the poem (or maybe just even bug them out a little every once in a while). It's very hard from the audio recording to get a feel for how much sparkle is in your eyes (or when you bug them out) as you read. Maybe in the future, when you know you are recording your shows, you could make little asides into the microphone to let all of us out here on the internet know how much sparkle is in your eyes or when you bug them out as you read.
